Ok, so it's a common moth but hey I caught it. There was a second moth flying near the trap when I went out to put it away, that was before I knew I'd caught anything.

Nice one ,your off things should start picking up now ,ggod photo.
Thanks Andy, it's taken a while, it'll be really interesting to see what I can get here.
Nice egg boxes too!
Brilliant photo, we can't seem to get this moth photography right at all, any tips anyone?
Get in there Alastair! It'll all start happening now, you watch....
This photo was easy - dopey moth, put in nice light and blast away with the S3 set on super macro. The S3 has got more picky about focus as it's got older but it's generally good. Some of the newer sub-SLR digital cameras should be loads better e.g. the Canon SX20 (the latest S3) but I haven't tried one (yet). I find the smaller digitals hard to hold still on macro and they often have a long delay on firing which doesn't help.
Yes, thanks for the egg boxes Nick.
I should think its a very short and interesting season up there for moths ,the season is up and running here and had a bumper catch in hebden Bridge last nite
